Here's a bit of an origin story to how Balanced Self Academy came to be.

I have been in the mental health field since 2004. I worked mostly with adolescents in child welfare, then inpatient treatment and most recently, I left a coveted job in school social work.

My last school was one with a large South Asian population.....and the kinship I felt with these students was remarkable. Honestly, with so many of the students from the global majority, it felt like a homecoming of sorts. The value that the students received from being able to work with someone that looked like them or who had experienced similar struggles was rewarding AF, I'm not going to lie. I loved it.

In 2022, I moved on to starting my private practice. I thoroughly enjoyed engaging in clinical work with students, so I wanted to see what it was like to work with adults.

Spoiler Alert.....It is f&^%& awesome! I work with South Asian clientele who ware trying to navigate life while being children of immigrants, and the magic that we create together is unmatched. I get SO excited when we can journey together to support South Asians with their anxiety, overthinking, perfectionism, people pleasing and more.

What I started to notice was that their brothers, sisters, spouses, cousins, co-workers were struggling with their mental health and for whatever reason, they were not able to access psychotherapy in the traditional sense. Sometimes, it was just the intense stigma that still prevails in South Asian culture.

So what to do? I wondered what else I could do to serve my immediate community and beyond. How could I fill this gap?

Thus was born...........
